This will be the third attempt at a television series, the world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Plot
After a harrowing incident at their elite college, stepsisters Caroline and Lucien decide to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. A direct-to-video sequel, Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Mertuille, was originally a scripted television series before being adapted into a feature film.
Cruel Intentions (1999) followed
Gellar later reprised her role as Catherine in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. With the exception of Sarah Silva, who played CeCe, the cast was all terribly well-chosen.
I wouldn’t say they’re not decent actors
To say the acting was brilliant is an understatement. But the main characters were definitely not suited to these roles.
It’s not a completely different story
The story was decent and while it’s understandable that these aren’t the same characters as the original film, they are based on them. Some scenes are copied from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.
Lucian was supposed to be as sexy a character as Sebastian was, but the fact that Zach Burgess was considered the right look and actor for the role is now lost on us
Sarah Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job as the slut, but like Zach and Lucien’s characters, they weren’t really “sexy and attractive.” It would have helped if we hadn’t used the title Cruel Intentions for the show, but regardless, these actors and actresses just missed the mark.
