A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. The role of landowners is usually to negotiate and contract with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Basically, they manage the land and secure their leases so they can extract the oil and gas. As construction foremen, they build roads, workers’ quarters (camp), oversee the installation of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator.. Refers to CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). It’s formulaic television, but from a writer who will be remembered in a few decades as Norman Lear is now. The difference seems to be one of geography. It’s another Western show and its brilliant marketing is combined with excellent performances by some high-quality actors. Oil industry precision issues? Obviously. Inadequacy of the mother-daughter-father-family dynamic? Yes. Does that mean none of this plays out the same in real life? No matter, it’s a dynamic production and fun to watch. Thornton is slated for the role, although I read that it was written just for him. Larter gives a top-notch performance and looks phenomenal. Lots of interesting stuff, except for one oddity, Demi Moore appears in all 10 episodes. I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far, and unless it’s just me, I remember seeing and hearing her only once or so, in her swimming pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character doesn’t get as much exposure either, but he’s well-behaved and nails his character, but Moore isn’t allowed to add anything yet. Maybe that’s how it’s written and he’ll play a role in later episodes. If not, I wonder what the deal is.
